Choosing a midwife and planning a homebirth often comes with many questions. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about care, homebirth, insurance, and what it’s like to work with Meadowlark Midwifery.

Is homebirth safe?
Yes. Homebirth is a safe option for individuals with low-risk pregnancies who desire birth at home and actively participate in their care.
Do you take insurance?
While homebirth midwives in Minnesota are considered out-of-network providers, billing support and superbills are available for reimbursement.
What is the fee for care?
Care is offered on a sliding scale of $5,500–$7,000, with flexible payment plans available.
How early should I contact a midwife?
The earlier, the better. Many families reach out during the first trimester, but you’re welcome to contact Meadowlark Midwifery at any stage of your pregnancy to discuss care options and availability.
What areas do you serve?
Meadowlark Midwifery serves families throughout the local community and surrounding areas, within an hour of Robbinsdale. Please reach out to discuss whether your location falls within the service area.
Can I have a water birth at home?
Yes. Water birth is available for families who desire it. Complimentary birth tubs are provided at no additional cost.
What happens during prenatal visits?
Prenatal visits are approximately one hour long and include discussions about your health, your baby’s growth, testing options, questions, education, and preparations for birth and postpartum.
Can my partner and family be involved in the birth?
Absolutely. Homebirth allows you to choose who you would like present during labor and birth so you can feel supported and comfortable in your own space.
What should I do if I'm unsure whether homebirth is right for me?
A consultation is a great place to start. We’ll discuss your health history, goals, questions, and concerns so you can make an informed decision about your care options.
How often will I see my midwife during pregnancy?
Prenatal visits are scheduled regularly throughout your pregnancy and become more frequent as your due date approaches. Visits are approximately one hour long, allowing plenty of time to discuss your health, your baby’s development, questions, concerns, and birth preferences.
What should I do when labor begins?
When labor starts, you’ll contact your midwife to discuss your symptoms and progress. Guidance and support will be provided throughout labor, and your midwife will come to your home when the timing is appropriate to provide hands-on care and monitoring.
Can I choose who is present at my birth?
Absolutely. One of the benefits of homebirth is the ability to create a birth environment that feels comfortable and supportive. You are welcome to have your partner, family members, friends, doulas, or anyone else you would like present during labor and birth.
What should I have ready for a homebirth?
As your due date approaches, you’ll receive guidance on preparing your home and gathering any necessary supplies. Together, we’ll discuss practical preparations so you can feel confident, organized, and ready when labor begins.
What happens after my baby is born?
Do you provide support after the baby is born?
Yes. Postpartum care includes in-home visits during the early days after birth, followed by office visits through approximately six weeks postpartum to support both parent and baby. All families are encouraged to establish pediatric care during this time, in addition to the care provided by Meadowlark Midwifery.
